Transfer Site

Use of the Transfer Station is for Freeman Township TAXPAYERS ONLY and must have a permit visible in their windshield. Click HERE for Transfer station Rules.

Hours:
Sunday:  11:00 am to 2:00 pm. 
Wednesday:  2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.

We are also enforcing the 6 bag limit for each day.
tHERE IS A 40 pound limit per bag.

The township encourages the citizens to take advantage of the recycle service we provide at the transfer site. What you put in the recycle bins your tax dollars do not pay in landfill fees. Recycling standards can be found in this website or by contacting the office at (989) 588-2752.
Throughout the summer months large dumpsters are available at the transfer site for the disposal of large items of furniture, rolled carpet, tvs, microwaves, small appliances. Refrigerators must have the freon removed and a sticker attached attesting to this. NO BUILDING MATERIALS OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED IN ANY OF THE DUMPSTERS AT THE TRANSFER SITE.

Road Brining

Approximate times:

Road Brining is provided in the township three times a year. The schedule is for May, July and September or October.

Early Warning Sirens

The Clare County Early Warning System is a cooperative effort between Clare, Harrison, and townships of Hamilton, Redding, Freeman, Surrey, Lincoln, and Grant, along with the USDA.  Clare County Central Dispatch has primary control over the system. 

Different Sounds:

Tornado, chemical spill, & any other problem where people need to take shelter inside: Siren will be a long building tone that stays at its upper limit for an extended time.

Attack Warning:

Siren tone will rise and fall for the duration of the signal

An air-horn sounding short blasts.

 Testing Schedule:
 Sirens will be tested on the 1st Thursday of every month, unless there is threatening weather.

Any time the sirens are activated people are urged to turn on their local news or NOAA Radio for information.  For more information, or if you have questions about the system, contact Clare County Sheriff's Dept. (989) 539-7166.

Library Services:

Residents of Freeman Township may receive free library service from Surrey Township Library in Farwell.
989-588-9782.

Dog Licenses & Complaints:

Every dog over four (4) months of age must be inoculated and have a current license. You may purchase the license from the Clare County Treasurers office in Harrison, 989-539-7801. Call for current fees. Complaints concerning dogs should be made to the Clare County Dog Officer at 989-539-3221.

 
Building Permits:

State law requires that you obtain a permit for construction of all commercial and residential buildings; such as houses, garages, pole barns, porches, installing mobile homes, additions and alterations to existing homes and mobile homes, storage buildings and decks.

Plumbing & Mechanical: ( heating) permits are obtained at the office of the Building Officer in the Clare County Court House in Harrison. 989-539-2761.

Septic Systems & Well Permits: are obtained from the Clare County Health Department, Harrison Court House. 989-539-6731.

Land Divisions: Most dividing of land or lots now require advance approval of the Township BEFORE selling a portion of your property. If you are thinking of splitting your property call or talk to the Assessor to get the required information and application approved before the sale.
Land Sales: All sales of land, including Land Contract sales require the Buyer to file a Transfer of Affidavit with the Assessor in the Township where the Property is located.

 

Transfer Station Rules:

  1. Household Rubbish must be in pieces no longer than 3 feet in length to be placed in the compactor. Six garbage bags per household per visit are allowed.
     
  2. Recyclable Items have a separate dumpster. Paper, cans, cardboard, bottles, plastic, etc. can be disposed of weekly.
     
  3. A thirty yard dumpster will be provided on a limited basis for large items, overstuffed furniture, etc during the summer months.
     
  4. You may call 989-588-2752 if you have questions regarding items that can be brought to the Transfer Station.
     
  5. Building material or Yard waste WILL NOT be accepted at the Transfer Station. The Board is looking into the feasibility of accepting yard waste and will keep you updated.
     
  6. Transfer Station Hours of Operation: Sunday 11:00 am 2:00 pm & Wednesday 2:00 pm 5:00 pm.
     
  7. Throwing trash over the fence or in and around the Transfer Station is littering. Offenders can be fined or face court action.
